Pangamic Acid (Vitamin B15)

There have been a number of false claims about the biological activity of pangamic acid, a derivative of the amino acid glycine (pangamic acid is dimethyl glycine). This substance has been reported to be an oxygenator of body tissues, and also as an excellent scavenger of free radicals. As a nutritional supplement, products properly labeled as DMG or Dimethylglycine may have some use as an aid to increased exercise endurance, oxygenation of tissues, and as a free radical scavenger. In spite of it's proven effects in scattered small clinical studies, and reports of use during the Olympic Games, safety studies are not yet complete. Until further safety data is available, it is recommended that pregnant women and lactating women avoid the use of this supplement. It is further advised that everyone avoid products labeled as "pangamic acid", or "calcium pangamate", which are impure derivatives of this product. Although DMG is not an essential nutrient in humans, the recommended dosage to achieve increased exercise performance is 50-125 mgs daily.
